Cheryl de la Rey

Vice-Chancellor, University of Canterbury

Speaking of influential Ōtautahi wahine, Professor Cheryl de la Rey is a welcome addition to the mix. With about twenty years’ experience as an executive in higher education and a PhD in Psychology under her belt, Cheryl joined the University of Canterbury in 2019 from South Africa.

Her current role sees her responsible for the overall leadership of the senior management team (think of her as the CEO of UC). In these unsettling times it’s a role that requires equal parts empathy, bravery and good old fashioned business smarts – luckily, all qualities that Cheryl has in abundance.  We can’t wait to hear her perspective on Christchurch!
