Matt Brown is a bit of a local legend. An internationally acclaimed barber, he started My Fathers Barber here in Christchurch as a way of passionately communicating a message of vulnerability, connection and healing amongst men who frequent the shop.
In his own life, Matt is a survivor of family violence and childhood sexual abuse. He is currently co-writing the book She Is Not Your Rehab with his wife, and will deliver a TEDx talk in August 2019 under the same title. A passionate ambassador and advocate for Aviva, Matt regularly speaks out against domestic violence for non-profit organisations like White Ribbon all over the country.
In 2018, Matt partnered with the Ministry of Social Development for their ‘It’s not OK campaign’ to increase awareness about the role of barbers in creating safe spaces that allow men to talk.
