Nina Oberg Humphries

Artist

Born and raised in Ōtautahi Christchurch, artist Nina Oberg Humphries is a creative powerhouse observing our nation through a unique lens. As the current Pacific Artist in Residence at the University of Canterbury’s Macmillan Brown Centre for Pacific Studies, her work explores her Pakeha and Cook Island heritage – blending popular culture and cultural tradition across a variety of mediums including photography, sound, film, and Polynesian art forms such as Tivaevae, costume and dance.

After high school, Oberg Humphries attended a School of Fine Arts at both Massey University in Wellington and Canterbury University in Christchurch. She graduated in 2015, and has since exhibited her work throughout Aotearoa. Her work conveys issues of gender, identity and social politics, and we know she'll resonate with many of you this Broad-ly.
